If we had to make a list of the bands that we wanted to see live after the end of the lockdowns here in Australia, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers would be right at the top. The energy of the rising punk act is irreplicable, something also noticed by Domestic La La (home of Dear Seattle, West Thebarton and LOSER) and UNIFIED Artist Management, who have announced today that they’ve inked a partnership with the band. To coincide with the news, Teen Jesus have shared a new single, ‘AHHH!’.
Premiered on triple j’s Home & Hosed last night, vocalist Anna Ryan explains what’s behind the song, describing it as “loosely about navigating a relationship with someone you have known for a long time but their character changes,” and elaborating: “You find yourself making excuses for them and forgiving them when the answer is clear that sometimes you just need to ditch and move the heck on!”
Moving the heck on by rocking out to Teen Jesus sounds like our type of therapy. Formed during high school in their hometown of Canberra, the act comprises of Ryan on vocals, Scarlett McKahey on guitar/vocals, Jaida Stephenson on bass and Neve van Boxsel on drums. Sharing some more insight on the approach that makes Teen Jesus stand out above all else, McKahey comments: “We just want to be loud. We’re obviously into the punk side of things and speaking our mind, so it’s not ‘pop’ fun, I’d say it’s more ‘angry’ fun,” adding: “… at the end of the day, at the live shows we just want to allow everyone a space to have a really fun time and be themselves.” We can’t wait to see what Teen Jesus do next, and we’ll be waiting with bated breath to cover it right here for you.
