Skater XL to rival Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater with levelled up soundtrack

As the consistent hype surrounding Vicarious Visions’ remastered release of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 continues to grow, rival developer Easy Day Studios are looking to one-up their competition by announcing an incredible soundtrack for their forthcoming skateboarding title Skater XL.

“We really wanted the soundtrack to reflect skateboarding culture, as well as pay homage to some of the artists that provided the soundtracks to some of the most influential skate videos of all time,” explained Easy Day studios marketing director Jeff Goforth.

The list of acts handpicked by the developer is a fantastic mixture of big name alternative and indie acts with a number of lesser-known artists thrown in for good measure. The full list of contributing artists includes Modest Mouse, Interpol, Band Of Horses, Future Islands, Animal Collective, Silversun Pickups, Built To Spill, STARHEADBODY, Getter, Cende, The Shivas, Westkust and Kratos Himself.

“Music is such a huge part of skate culture and by incorporating the artists that created the sound of some of our favourite video parts, and have a connection to skateboarding, it just made so much sense,” Goforth added.

While yet to release the official tracklisting, the mix is mighty impressive and sure to provide fans with an eclectic collection from some of the world’s biggest artists. It sees Skater XL preserve a reverence for the skating culture and its intersection with music, in line with the high bar set by Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater originals.

Along with the awesome soundtrack, Skater XL includes a huge roster of famous skateboarders, including Tiago Lemos, Tom Asta, Evan Smith and Brandon Westgate, with players also able to create their own character before kick flipping their way through the game’s iconic Californian locations.

Skater XL drops July 28 on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Check out the trailer below.
