Yungblud goes full Brit-punk on ‘Strawberry Lipstick’

Share

While shocks are generally expected from UK artist Yungblud, the direction of new single ‘Strawberry Lipstick’ pulls no punches with its creative vision. In the freshly premiered clip for his new track, Mr. Blud (as Eamon from The Chats eloquently refers to him) is physically collared by California singer/songwriter Jesse Jo Stark, with the whole affair taking place in an overtly Brit-punk setting.

From a Spice Girls-esque Union Jack dress to Union Jack boxing shorts, the video is plastered in references to the England of days past. Spiked red hair, tartan co-ord outfits and a haunting painting of the Queen sucking on a strawberry all affrontingly feature. According to a recent tweet from Yungblud, strawberries are not only high in Vitamin C but apparently also boost your libido, which would explain a lot about this video, to be honest.

It really is a far cry from previous single ‘Weird’, which turned out to be the perfect anthem for the isolating times of our current pandemic and holds its own as a deeply introspective meditation on anxiety. It was shot for $100USD in Yungblud’s Los Angeles home, cementing his continued interaction with fans throughout the virus-driven hibernation that this year has presented us.

In addition to pumping out singles, the British force-to-be-reckoned-with has kicked off his own YouTube series (which even guest-starred Paris Hilton), tackled Aussie anthem ‘Smoko’ by The Chats and dueted ‘Champagne Supernova’ by Oasis with Machine Gun Kelly – and those are just the highlights. He also just announced the sequel to his first graphic novel, The Twisted Tales of the Ritalin Club.

A new album has been rumoured to be in the works for Yungblud, who made his debut two years back with 2018’s long-player 21st Century Liability.
