The ultimate unholy union of image and sound is currently being concocted from the mad geniuses at DC Comics and Loma Vista Recordings, who have emerged from the lab overnight to announce that “It’s Alive!!!” ‘It’ of course being the official soundtrack for their current comic series, Dark Nights: Death Metal, set for release digitally June 18th, and physically on July 16th.
At the helm of the soundtrack is none other than the Soundtrack Tsar himself, Tyler Bates, who has worked on similar such projects for blockbusters including Guardians of the Galaxy, Watchmen, John Wick and many, many more. To fill the tracklist, Bates tagged luminaries (including but not exclusive to) Rise Against, Greg Puciato, Grey Daze, Chelsea Wolfe and Mastodon, who had the honour of opening the album with their original track ‘Forged By Neron’, which is also the first warning shot fired from the release, streaming below. Cop the full impressive tracklisting below to see it for yourself.
“We are super excited and honored to be part of the Dark Nights: Death Metal Soundtrack! We’ve all been fans of DC Comics and the Batman universe since we were kids, so it really means a lot for us to be able to add something to that world,” says Brann Dailor of Mastodon.
Rather than merely submitting WAV files, the artists involved were far more involved in the process than with the usual soundtrack — taking heed from the comic series (indeed, Neron is the Lord of Hell throughout the story arc) and in some cases, combining forces to get the job done as we see with Maria Brink featuring Andy Biersack Denzel Curry and PlayThatBoiZay, as well as Puciato working alongside Gil Sharone and HEALTH featuring Chino Moreno.
Nor will it just be another record gathering dust in the corner. The physical release for the Dark Nights: Death Metal is nothing short of breathtaking, featuring comic covers, and released alongside each artists’ respective flexi singles. Numbers are expected to be incredibly limited, so don’t fuck about.
