John Wick 5 has been confirmed

It’s been a fairly rough time for the Baba Yaga himself, John Wick, and it doesn’t look as though he’ll be getting his well deserved R&R any time soon, with news coming through that the beloved gunslinger will be returning for a fifth instalment. Production will be beginning straight off the bat of the already confirmed John Wick 4.

Per Comicbook.com, the news came straight from the mouth of Lionsgate CEO John Feltheimer, who confirmed plans for John Wick 5 during their recent earnings calls.

Speaking of the company’s next steps, Feltheimer elaborated somewhat further, adding ““We’re also busy preparing scripts for the next two instalments of our John Wick action franchise, with John Wick 4 slated to hit theatres Memorial Day weekend 2022. We hope to shoot both John Wick 4 & 5 back to back when Keanu becomes available early next year.”

Any plot points or production timelines remain closely guarded secrets, for now.

This makes perfect sense to stans of the franchise, no doubt aware that the urgency and pace of a John Wick feel adds even more oomph to the experience. Days, if not mere minutes, are all that separates previous John Wick instalments, allowing the stories to roll seamlessly into one another.

Fans of the franchise will also understand all too well Lionsgate’s eagerness to lock in 5 before 4 has even hit cinemas. Somehow defying logic, each John Wick sequel sees the brand only become stronger, with the franchise amassing a cool $500 million from global box office takings.

John Wick Chapter 1 hit cinemas in 2014, Chapter 2 in 2017 and Chapter 3 closing the gap somewhat with a 2019 release date.

Keanu has his hands full at the moment. This year will see the release of Bill & Ted 3, while he gets back to work on the fourth Matrix film. Considering the dude can do no wrong – and be breathtaking to boot – we here at Blunt are reading and willing to dive head first into this ocean of amazing Keanu content.
