Tom DeLonge Traces Blink-182’s Sonic History In New Documentary

Tom DeLonge

Everyone’s favourite rock’n’roll conspiracy theorist Tom DeLonge is set to star in a new documentary that will cover his experiences in Blink-182 and Box Car Racer all the way through to his current outfit, Angels & Airwaves.

The doco is presented by renowned guitar company Ernie Ball and will air in the US via Audience Music on August 19 at 8pm ET/PT (but we have no doubt it will be available elsewhere in time). The trailer for The Pursuit Of Tone – Tom DeLonge sees the musician discuss the origins of Blink-182, with his motivation for forming the band partly being spurred on by the fact that “there was a sound” that he wanted to go for “that was nursery rhymes on steroids – loud and fast, but they’re nursery rhymes”. He speaks of a girl introducing him to her brother, Mark Hoppus, and as we all know the rest is history.

The film will also hopefully shed some more light on DeLonge’s questionable and mildly controversial Blexit (Blink-182 exit). “The band exploded and was really big,” DeLonge notes. “But I sensed that there was ways we could experiment musically. That realisation was like a nuclear bomb”. If you’re wondering what Tom will be up to for the rest of the year, the answer is a fair bit. He tweeted just the other day that “one day” he’s writing, “the next filming, the next recording”. If you’re a fan, you can pretty much rest assured that there’s plenty on the way.
