The Soundwave 2016 Line-Up Just Got A Bit Heavier

Soundwave 2016

It appears we’ve spoken too soon – the faucets at Soundwave HQ have started to leak again, this time dripping out three heavy-hitting shred units to join the SW16 bill. Revealed as a “Special Presentation”, metalcore face-melters Killswitch Engage lead the announcement, the Massachusetts quintet popping up at the festival to perform their second album, Alive Or Just Breathing, in full. Prior to today’s official unveiling, the band were leaked through an early poster on Channel [V]’s Facebook page.

Also joining the line-up are New Jersey latin metallers Ill Niño, who will perform their debut album, Revolution Revolución, in full. Both Killswitch’s Alive Or Just Breathing and Ill Niño’s Revolution Revolución have been heralded as iconic records, the former especially acclaimed for being the ‘birth of metalcore’.

Rounding out the announcement are horror metal cannibals Terror Universal, a supergroup comprised of current and former members of Machine Head, Soulfly and Ill Niño. They don’t actually have an album to perform in full (yet!), but are notable as the first band in Soundwave history to perform across two consecutive years of the festival. The quartet performed at this year’s run to mixed reception, though with a new vocalist – whose identity remains a mystery – they’re definitely worth checking out.

Killswitch Engage, Ill Niño and Terror Universal will be joining the ranks alongside Disturbed, Bring Me The Horizon, The Prodigy and Deftones at next year’s festival. A second full line-up announcement is also set to drop in the hopefully-not-too-distant-future, so keep your eyes peeled for that!

In the meantime, mosh out to Killswitch Engage’s “My Last Serenade” below.
