The kids aren’t alright in the Weapons teaser

Share

Have a very brief glimpse of the latest offering from Barbarian director Zach Cregger.

The first teaser for Weapons doesn’t offer much except some creepy imagery and a couple of hooks, but they’re really strong hooks. One is the premise: a whole neighbourhood’s worth of kids just up and ran way, and nobody knows why. Two is the filmmaker: Zach Cregger, former Whitest Kids U’ Know turned bona fide horror auteur. We’re in.

It’s a mystery! Which means getting plot details on Weapons is gonna be like pulling teeth. So far we have this:

When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.

…which ain’t much. But we do have a cast! Joining Cregger, who’s writing, directing, and producing, are Josh Brolin and Julia Garner as mystified dad Archer Graff and equally baffled teacher Justine Gandy,
plus Alden Ehrenreich local cop, Paul. Benedict Wong is Andrew, the school principal, and Cary Christopher is Alex, the only kid who didn’t vanish, which makes us think this might be a riff on the old Pied Piper story. Also on board are Austin Abrams, Amy Madigan, June Diane Raphael, Clayton Farris, Whitmer Thomas, Toby Huss, and Luke Speakman.

And if you want to sieve the available data for more info, Warner have slapped together an in-universe website, Maybrook Missing. Have a poke around there and plug your burner email in for updates and whatnot. All else aside, one of the clips there suggests Weapons takes place in the same universe as Barbarian, which is a nice touch.

Weapons hits Australian cinemas on August 7, 2025, from Warner.
