Metallica Will Raise Money For Paris Victims On Record Store Day

It’s no surprise that the ‘Tallica are in favour of the purchasing of physical albums – we forgive you Lars, you made that guy’s day in Mission To Lars and us cry on a plane back from Perth – but what is really rad about this year’s Record Store Day is that Metallica are giving all the proceeds from their exclusive special live CD, Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité, Metallica! – Live at Le Bataclan to charity. As the global event’s official ambassadors, they’ve donated their live album, which was recorded back in June of 2003 at the very same venue that was attacked by terrorists during an Eagles Of Death Metal concert last November.

The disc will raise cash for the Fondation de France’s Give For France charity, which directly benefits the victims of the attack, and will serve to highlight the important correlation between great music and freedom and the joy it gives to folks, regardless of what a bunch of angry knobs with guns might think.

We know you’re already saving all your pennies for those one-off pink splatter seven inches but if you’re even a little bit of a Metallica fan, this is certainly worthy of your coin. This year’s Record Store Day will take place on Saturday April 16th, with over 1,400 independent record stores taking part in the US alone.

Watch Metallica look back on their history with Record Store Day (and for an extra bit of fun, note how many times Lars Ulrich points at the camera).
