Here’s What Metallica Played on the Opening Night of Their 2025 World Tour

Share

Metallica kicked off their 2025 world tour over the weekend, proving once again they’ve still got absolutely zero interest in subtlety.

The band opened their global run on Saturday, April 19 at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, New York with a 16-song set that spanned nine of their ten studio albums. And yes, it was bloody loud as one would expect from a Metallica gig.

They opened with ‘Creeping Death’ and ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls’, a classic pairing that still hits. Beyond that point, the noise looks like it didn’t let up for the next two hours. There were new tracks from 72 Seasons, a few deep(ish) cuts, and all the obligatory arena anthems.

Here’s exactly what the band played:

Metallica – April 19, 2025 – JMA Wireless Dome, Syracuse

  1. Creeping Death
  2. For Whom the Bell Tolls
  3. Hit the Lights
  4. King Nothing
  5. Lux Æterna
  6. Screaming Suicide
  7. Broken, Beat & Scarred
  8. The Day That Never Comes
  9. Fuel
  10. Orion
  11. Nothing Else Matters
  12. Sad but True
  13. One
  14. Seek & Destroy
  15. Master of Puppets
  16. Enter Sandman

For a band well into their fourth decade, there’s clearly no signs of easing off. The performance was sharp, heavy, and relentlessly tight. Even Lars Ulrich was on good behaviour. The 72 Seasons tracks held their own, but let’s be honest: everyone was there to scream the ‘Sandman’ riff.

So far though, there have been no major surprises—but that might change as the tour rolls on. For now, Metallica are leaning into the legacy, and doing it with the kind of muscle that makes you forget just how long they’ve been doing this.

Metallica will be bringing this monster of a tour to Australian and New Zealand in November. While down here they will be performing stadium shows in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Auckland. Tickets can be purchased here.

Now, while those shows might seem awhile away I think I’d start my prepping soon. Based on the footage I’ve seen, your eardrums might need a bit of a warmup.
