Slowly Slowly share new single, ‘Blueprint’

We’ haven’t been shy about declaring the genius of Melbourne’s very own Slowly Slowly, so it comes with great joy that we reveal that they’ve shared their new single, ‘Blueprint’, alongside a fresh clip. The song follows on from some extensive teasing from the band over the last few weeks, postdating the release of the extended edition of Race Car Blues earlier this year.

Speaking on the inception of ‘Blueprint’, frontman Ben Stewart comments on finally being able to throw a party for his loved ones, reinforcing what he’d been missing out on in those long months of Melbourne’s lockdown. “There was no awkward small talk, no drugs needed to stimulate conversation (granted there was booze), but I’ve got a feeling it was mostly the blistering loud music and the fact we hadn’t all been together in so long. Honestly my house was destroyed the next day, but strangely it just reminded me of what it means to come home to something,” he explains.

“Throughout lockdown that feeling of elation completely faded into a distant memory. This song then became something we planned to release after the harshness of it all had blown over — a party track that could become somewhat of a “fist-in-the-air’ moment after realising what we’d all been fighting for.”

The story behind the song transmutes into one hell of a video, which sees things escalate rather quickly from mundane to chaotic between Stewart and bandmates Albert Doan (guitar), Alex Quayle (bass) and Patrick Murphy (drums). Directed by Kyle Caulfield, Stewart elaborates on the clip: “It was also a welcome challenge to create alter egos which we then had to flesh out in a solo setting — it wasn’t something that we have done before, but I like the pressure under the spotlight without others to lean on. I feel like this is the first video that really tested our acting skills (if you can call them skills haha) we were waiting for the others to finish their parts so we could see how they did, you know? Seeing how we stacked up. We were all pushing each other — I couldn’t imagine a more supportive crew as Kyle & everyone else on set really brought the best out in us.“

If you’re a fan of Slowly Slowly, or at least you are now, you can catch the band on their headline tour across Australia in June, finally giving them the chance to tour songs off their 2020/2021 magnum opus Race Car Blues Chapters 1 & 2.
