We’re getting back to normal, folks. With coronavirus cases down and our spirits climbing back up, the return of live music is slowly taking shape. An exciting new development in this series of events, the Scene & Heard Festival is set to return to Newcastle this February with a line-up of alt icons set to paralyse you into a state of nostalgia indefinitely.
The line-up boasts the crème de la crème of the Aussie alt scene of days past, featuring Grinspoon, Regurgitator, Ratcat, Frenzal Rhomb, COG, Killing Heidi, Custard and Caligula, with more fun set to be announced leading up to February. The festival will take place at Wickham Park on Sunday, February 21, 2021.
Of course, it’ll be a good time even if you aren’t a diehard fan of every band on the line-up (though, simply as a patriot of Australia, you should be). Grinspoon will be pulling out the classics for their headline set on the Sound & Heard stage, spanning across their seven album catalogue and providing assurance that even your mum would recognise at least one of the songs they’re about to belt out. The band shared that they “cannot wait to play this unreal festy,” and we can’t wait to be there.
The festival’s message is that it’s about “more than a festival.” Per their ethos, it’s about “creating a connection to a time. A time before people cared about ‘likes’, and festival moments weren’t Instagram opportunities but collective memories.” Aside from the main stage, the Don’t Come Monday stage acts as a party zone “designed to evoke only the best memories of the boiler room, nightclubs and dance floor moves that you thought you’d forgotten!” Hot damn.
