On The Steps Returns to Sydney this December with Franz Ferdinand, Loyle Carner, Parcels + More

Share

Live music is taking over the Sydney Opera House Forecourt again this summer, with On The Steps officially locked in for another massive season of outdoor gigs under the sails.

Now in its fourth year, the two-week concert series will run from 1–15 December, bringing in over 50,000 punters for a packed stretch of shows at one of the world’s most iconic venues. If standing outside with a drink in hand, watching some of the best acts on the planet perform with Sydney Harbour in the background sounds like your kind of thing, I’d mark your calendar.

The first wave of artists has dropped, and it’s already looking solid. Franz Ferdinand will bring their high-energy art rock to the Forecourt on 3 December, followed by UK hip-hop poet Loyle Carner on 4 December. Aussie electro-pop outfit Parcels are doubling up with two shows on 6 and 7 December, and for something a little different, comedian Urzila Carlson will headline on 13 December. More names are expected soon, with a mix of international heavyweights and homegrown favourites in the pipeline.

Presented by Live Nation and now a staple of Sydney’s summer schedule, On The Steps has built a reputation for turning the Opera House into a fully-fledged open-air party zone — without losing the magic of the venue. The atmosphere hits different when you’re watching live music framed by the sails and the Harbour Bridge.

The series will also continue its partnership with Support Act, raising funds through the Aus Music T-Shirt Day campaign during Aus Music Month. So yeah — good tunes, great cause.

Expect more big-name additions in the coming weeks. In the meantime, tickets for the announced shows are already on sale at livenation.com.au/on-the-steps. Don’t sleep on it — these gigs tend to sell fast, and this year’s shaping up to be the biggest yet.
