Lorde Announces New Album ‘Virgin’, Out June 27

Share

Lorde has officially announced her new album, and it’s called Virgin.

Out June 27, it marks her first full-length release since 2021’s Solar Power, a record that still divides her fanbase like a festering wound.

The rollout for Virgin has been anything but traditional. Last year she scrubbed her socials and went completely quiet. She also posted a picture of her spitting on Instagram without any context.

More recently, she popped up at Coachella with Charli xcx where she sung Girl, so confusing. She then went on to shut down Washington Square Park in New York with a rogue speaker and a crowd that ended up so big the cops had to intervene. The scenes were then featured in the music video for the albums lead single, ‘What Was That.’

Now, she’s confirmed the details: Virgin will feature 11 tracks and was produced by Lorde herself with Jim-E Stack. Dev Hynes (Blood Orange), Fabiana Palladino, Dan Nigro, Buddy Ross, and Andrew Aged are all in the mix. The record was mixed by Spike Stent and Tom Elmhirst, and mastered by Chris Gehringer. She’s calling it “100% WRITTEN IN BLOOD.”

In a note to fans, she expanded on the concept: “The colour of the album is clear. Like bathwater, windows, ice, spit. Full transparency. The language is plain and unsentimental… I was trying to see myself, all the way through.”

There’s an intensity to the rollout that already feels very Melodrama coded. But she’s also calling it her most “unsentimental” work yet. Whether that means sad club bangers, cold synth ballads or something completely unhinged remains to be seen. Either way, she’s described it as raw, openhearted and “masc,” which feels like a new twist on her usual emotional palette.

Virgin drops June 27. Pre-orders are live now via her official site. It’s Lorde season again, so trap in.
