After seven long years, Franz Ferdinand are finally heading back down under.
The Scottish indie-rock icons will hit Australia this November and December, playing a handful of headline shows around the country — and honestly it’s about bloody time.
They’re touring with their sixth studio album The Human Fear. Which is arguably their most straight-up fun release in years. It’s packed with punchy, synthy, swaggering tracks that feel tailor-made for a sweaty live crowd. Really, it’s Franz doing what they do best — making you dance while having an existential crisis.
The run kicks off in Perth at Red Hill Auditorium on Wednesday 26 November, then hits Brisbane, Thirroul, Melbourne, and wraps up at none other than the Sydney Opera House Forecourt on Wednesday 3 December. From dingy clubs to national landmarks, Franz have certainly earned it.
Support comes from two local heavy-hitters: Teenage Dads, fresh off the back of a #1 debut album (MAJORDOMO) and a monster year of touring; and Delivery, the Melbourne garage-punk crew who’ve been everywhere lately, including multiple Euro tours and a shout-out from Rolling Stone Australia as ones to watch.
It’s been a minute since Franz last played Australia — 2018, to be exact — but if you’ve caught them live before, you’ll know it’s a guaranteed good time. Frontman Alex Kapranos doesn’t know how to phone it in, and the current lineup (including Audrey Tait and Dino Bardot) is very tight.
Tickets go on sale Wednesday 14 May via Frontier Touring, with presale access for Frontier members kicking off Monday 12 May at 10am.
