Electric Callboy Drummer David-Karl Friedrich Exits Band After 13 Years

Share

After thirteen years of breakdowns, tekkno, and stageside costume changes, drummer David-Karl Friedrich is leaving Electric Callboy.

It’s the end of an era – Electric Callboy are saying goodbye to their drummer David-Karl Friedrich after over a decade of heavy, techno-laced bangers and chaotic stage antics.

The German genre-melters — known for fusing metalcore breakdowns with Eurotrash party energy — broke the news via social media overnight, confirming that Friedrich has officially left the band on his own terms.

The statement reads:

“Hey guys,

Something is going to change, and we [Electric Callboy] want to share it with you today.

After all these years with us, David has decided that he wants to do something new and will follow his own path from now on.

Of course, we’re really sad about this, but we also have great respect for his decision. We can look back on 13 years with David as our drummer and no one can take away all the wonderful memories of our journey together. This time will always be a part of Electric Callboy. And for that, we say thank you! For his talented hands and feet, for thousands of crazy and emotional moments on and off stage, for lots of Hypa Hypa, and for more than a decade of EC on tour.

And don’t worry: of course we will play all festivals and upcoming concerts with a drummer. We will let you know soon who exactly.

Can’t wait to see you all this summer!”

No word yet on who’s stepping in to fill the spot, but Electric Callboy has a busy European summer ahead, so expect a replacement announcement soon. In the meantime, fans can take comfort knowing the party’s still on — just with a slightly altered lineup.

It’s not the first time the band has had a new face behind the drums, with Sum 41’s Frank Zummo stepping up at Good Things 2024 to give an absolutely mind-blowing performance when Friedrich had to return home last-minute. Given Zummo had about 24 hours to learn the band’s songs and absolutely crushed it, it’s safe to say with a bit more lead time Electric Callboy’s next drummer is likely to give some electric performances.

For now, respect where it’s due — Friedrich helped build the backbone of one of Europe’s weirdest and most relentlessly fun bands. Wherever he goes next, it probably won’t be quiet.
