Truckfighters: On The Record

From Nirvana’s Nevermind starting it all to the ’90s party vibes of Sugar Ray, guitarist Mr Dango of Swedish desert rockers Truckfighters talks us through the most influential albums in his record collection.

What was the first album or single you ever bought with your own money and where did you buy it?
Nirvana’s Nevermind from the local record store Najz Prajz in Örebro, Sweden.

What one album changed your life more than any other and in what way?
Nirvana’s Nevermind. It was the first time I got ‘hooked’ to an extreme level and it shaped my musical life. It made me start wanting to play guitar, helped me find my personal style and to some extent a wilder lifestyle. At this point the switch from a very sports interested kid to a music dude started.

What is one album or song that reminds you of your childhood?
I suppose I have to say Nirvana’s Nevermind again, because it is the album that got me into rock.

What album did you jam the most during your high school years?
I think this is when I discovered Tool, so let’s say Ænima.

What album instantly puts you in a good mood?
We Hunt Buffalo’s Living Ghosts or Deville’s Make It Belong To Us. They put me in a good mood because they’re great albums we just recently put out on Fuzzorama Records that I think everyone should check out! Actually, EVERY album Fuzzorama puts out has been good so far.

What is one obscure album in your collection that everyone should know about?
I don’t know really, but the most embarrassing was Army Of Lovers; I don’t remember the album title. I got the CD as a present when I was 10 or so, and it was total, total crap. I threw it away a few years ago though.

What’s one album you consider to be your guilty pleasure?
I’m not guilty!

What is the ultimate house-trashing party album?
Hmm I’m not really the house-trashing kind, but perhaps I would say Sugar Ray’s Lemonade And Brownies ’cause it’s party rock that we listened to in the ’90s.

Which album features the heaviest, fuzziest guitar sounds you’ve ever heard?
Can I choose my own albums? Truckfighters’ Gravity X. That is the fattest fuzz tone in the universe! [laughs].

What is the best album to listen to when hungover or chilling out on a Sunday morning?
Anything from Fuzzorama Records.

What’s one album that made you want to start a band?
Nirvana’s Nevermind. Yes, my answers are getting very predictable!

What one album from history do you wish you had performed on?
Tough question, and to avoid repeating myself I will say any of the ’90s Dinosaur Jr. albums because the guitar playing on those is pure magic.

What’s one album or song you want played at your funeral?
Truckfighters – “Majestic”. It’s my favourite Truckfighters song to date. Though the new album we are gonna put out next year might have something even better on it.

What is the last album you bought and what did you think of it?
Soundgarden’s King Animal. I think it’s a great rock album! I didn’t expect it to be so good after all these years but to me it’s just as good as the old albums. Best reunion ever!
