Fresh Fruit: Liberties

Fresh Fruit

What other names did you consider calling yourselves?
We didn’t really have any, as we ran with the idea of getting the larger components like music finished before focusing on the details. One day, Liberties just came to us.

Where are you from and what would be the most recognisable local landmark?
Newcastle: probably the big dick tower.

Who is in your band, what do they play and what is their non-musical superpower?
Ciaran – vocals; ridiculously friendly.
Amy – guitarist; Mario Kart all-star.
April – bass; always late.
Kieran – drums; king of DOTA.

Name your three biggest influences.
Emarosa, Beartooth and Rise Against.

What’s the usual first topic of conversation when you take a break at rehearsal?
Usually it’s whether Amy has batteries for April’s gear.

What’s your pre-show warm-up routine?
Only Kieran has one: eat a banana and drink coconut water.

Tell us about your most memorable show.
We had just been on the road for a week and were pretty tired coming into Sydney for our first ever headline show at the Hideaway Bar. We played the most crazy show to a sold-out venue, with some of our best mates playing alongside us.

What band would you most like to share the stage with and why?
My Chemical Romance, because… My Chemical Romance.

What’s the most exciting album you’ve listened to recently?
Either Sum 41’s 13 voices or Hellions’ Opera Oblivia.

What is your latest release and why should we buy it?
The Day To Day three-track. Don’t buy it. Come and see it live!

If you could be endorsed by one company, who would it be?

Why are you going to make it to the top over all the other contenders in the musical arena?
Well… It’s a long way to the top… But we want to rock ‘n’ roll.

Other than Dave Grohl, who has the best beard in rock?
Jason Butler or Joel Quartuccio.
