Fresh Fruit: Just About Done

Triple J Unearthed

What other names did you consider calling yourselves?
Just About Done was the first name we came up with, and we couldn’t look past the quality Blink-182 song it relates to.

Where are you from and what would be the most recognisable local landmark?
4/5 of us are straight outta Melbourne’s West, near the smelly factory as you hit Ring Road. Dan is from Nashville, Tennessee.

Who is in your band, what do they play and what is their non-musical superpower?
Dan is the lead guitarist. He can do a half-decent American accent.
Joe tries to play bass. If cartoon stink clouds were a thing… Wow.
Marchi is our drummer, and the only dude who can pull off a cardigan.
Jack plays rhythm guitar and thinks he’s always right.
Sam is the vocalist… And is always right.

Name your three biggest influences.
The Story So Far, early Paramore, and Joe’s high school band, After The Apocalypse.

What’s the usual first topic of conversation when you take a break at rehearsal?
The Big Lez Show.

What’s your pre-show warm-up routine?
We normally grab a burrito and listen to some Sticky Fingers.

Tell us about your most memorable show.
We played a show surrounded by all of our friends in a packed garage filled with good vibes.

What band would you most like to share the stage with and why?
We’d love to share the stage with The Story So Far, because then we know we’re actually getting somewhere. If you guys are reading this, when you come to Australia, can we be a support? You can crash at Jack’s mum’s house. She cooks a mean lasagne.

What’s the most exciting album you’ve listened to recently?
Dance Gavin Dance’s album Mothership is shaping up to be pretty promising!

What is your latest release and why should we buy it?
We recently released our single “Settler”, which we think has a new vibe in comparison to other pop-punk at the moment. It’s a good insight of what to expect from our upcoming EP, which will be released in December or January.

If you could be endorsed by one company, who would it be?
Guzman y Gomez!

Why are you going to make it to the top over all the other contenders in the musical arena?
We don’t think it’s a competition. It’s about making good music that people can relate to and putting on sick shows.

Other than Dave Grohl, who has the best beard in rock?
Dan O’Connor from Four Year Strong, for sure!
