Fresh Fruit: Carb On Carb
Carb On Carb
What other names did you consider calling yourselves?
Honestly can’t remember now, though Carb on Carb was the best of the bunch, so they’re not worth remembering.
Where are you from and what would be the most recognisable local landmark?
We’re from Auckland, NZ – the most recognisable landmark is probably the Sky Tower, but our favourite is Rangitoto, a not-very-old volcano that looms pretty large and pretty in the harbour.
Who is in your band, what do they play and what is their non-musical superpower?
James – drums: sending many thousands of emails in the name of Carb.
Nicole – vocals/guitar: the ability to eat garlic bread all day.
Name your three biggest influences.
Hannahband, Sydney DIY, and impatience.
What’s the usual first topic of conversation when you take a break at rehearsal?
If we’re not working on a new song, probably what we’re eating after practice.
What’s your pre-show warm-up routine?
James stretches and does star jumps. Nicole drinks a coffee and has a vocal-zone lozenge.
Tell us about your most memorable show.
There have been so many amazing shows for us in the past year, but the more recent ones are fresher memories – it would probably be Artless Armchair 11 in rural Victoria last December. Looking out at all the new friends we’d made that year yelling our lyrics back at us is hard to forget.
What band would you most like to share the stage with and why?
Paramore – I would love to do a pop punk jump competition with Hayley.
What’s the most exciting album you’ve listened to recently?
Prizegiving from Wellington, NZ have an incredible new album that is so straight to the heart and relatable – it comes out in a few months. They’re our favourite NZ band.
What is your latest release and why should we buy it?
Our self-titled album, out through Black Wire and Lesstalk Records in Australia. You should only buy it if you like what you can listen to for free on our BandCamp/Spotify.
If you could be endorsed by one company, who would it be?
Probably the company that makes Princess Crispy G fake chicken.
Why are you going to make it to the top over all the other contenders in the musical arena?
We won’t, and we won’t try – if we could make a decent living from touring and see our friends all over every year that’d be the pinnacle of success for us!
Other than Dave Grohl, who has the best beard in rock?
Nathan from Hannahband’s accidental tour beard.
