New Found Glory tour!

January 15th, 2010 by Kelly | No Comments | Filed in Tour News

New Found energy, New Found purpose; New Found Glory is back in the ring.

As opposed to the majority of their stale contemporaries, New Found Glory attacks each album with a breath of fresh air in a genre saturated with vocoder and neon. With an impressive catalog that hosts some of the most memorable pop punk songs of the past decade, their Epitaph Records debut ‘Not Without a Fight’, shows just how well they put their competition in a finishing headlock, “there’s no need to put up a fight, because New Found Glory takes the title by default.” – Absolute Punk

New Found Glory has never sounded more incredible, and as their legion of Australian fans can attest to they have taken the genre by the throat and defined it with their sound.

Southern California quintet Saosin are one of the fastest-growing headliners in rock –touring with heavyweights like AFI, Avenged Sevenfold, My Chemical Romance and Taking Back Sunday and garnering an ocean of fans who’ve downloaded their songs from MySpace over five million times.

Hailed as one of the most anticipated albums of 2009 by Alternative Press, ‘In Search Of Solid Ground’ is a remarkable step forward for the band. “Saosin’s spidery, riff-rocking attack is brawny and nuanced, and they know their way around a big chorus” – Rolling Stone

Springing out of the Ohio cornfields in 2003, Hit The Lights have managed to establish themselves as one of the most irresistibly catchy pop/punk bands around. On the back of their latest EP ‘Coast To Coast’ they have managed to not only help define a genre, but they have become “the unadulterated voice of kids with skateboards and iPods.” – TruePunk.com

The highly infectious triple bill of New Found Glory, Saosin and Hit The Lights will wind its way around Australia in April.

Revival Tour

January 13th, 2010 by Kelly | 1 Comment | Filed in Tour News

REVIVAL TOUR – Chuck Ragan (Hot Water Music), Frank Turner, Tim Barry (Avail), Ben Nichols (Lucero)

Founded by Chuck Ragan, the singer / songwriter / guitarist and Hot Water Music co-frontman– THE REVIVAL TOUR is set to launch in Australia from April 22 in Brisbane and wrap May 1 in Hobart.

Drawing from a diverse group of established musicians in indie Americana, rock, punk, Irish folk, THE REVIVAL TOUR will take the band of traveling musicians throughout Australia including Brisbane, Newcastle, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne and Hobart. In traditional revival fashion, once the music starts, this new guard of young, genre-defying, musicians keep it rolling, teaming in and out through each others’ sets until the final farewell of the night.

The Revival Australian Tour will include: Chuck Ragan (of Hot Water Music), Frank Turner, Tim Barry (of Avail) and Ben Nichols (of Lucero), with additional musicians Jon Gaunt and Todd Beene.

“As artists we go on tour together and then in the final days of the tour–after everyone is familiar with one another–you’re playing songs with your tour-mates and having a blast,” states founder Chuck Ragan. “I thought, why can’t we get together, rehearse before the tour starts and perform together during the entire tour?” Ragan says of his inspiration for THE REVIVAL TOUR. “Some of our set for that night’s show is chosen in advance, but everything else evolves organically onstage,” he elaborates. “It’s truly one of the most special tours I’ve ever been a part of.”

RZA of Wu Tang chats to George

January 12th, 2010 by Kelly | No Comments | Filed in Interviews

With Wu-Tang founder, leader, producer and all round thinker, RZA in the country for a string of shows in February, Blunt magazine caught up with the man as he worked on tracks in an LA studio to find out where he gets the time to not only control one of the most influential groups in hip-hop but also work as a director, actor and author.

Currently RZA is working on a Kung-fu film, taking on the role of writer, director and lead actor and a few years back, he released a book detailing the general philosophies and world view central to himself and the Wu-Tang. With so much going on behind the scenes and away from the microphone and mixing desk, I asked RZA if he ever feels like giving in the mic for a directors chair or the like.

“An emcee is like a samurai, know what I mean? I’ll always have the samurai thought process about me, regardless of what I’m doing. I’m an emcee first.” Having said this, there have been rumours that after the RZA’s next solo album, he will be getting out of the rap game to focus on film, only time will tell for certain.

Other than his emcee skills and more and more often, RZA has been called upon to write the music for other artists and act as a producer in the wider sense – so I suggested to the man that maybe over the years that there had been a few beats that he wished that he had saved to use as a vehicle for his own rhymes.

“Yeah, I think that that has happened a few times,” he laughs. “Of course there are a few songs that are hits that other people are known for and I’m not rappin’ on it, but then cuz I’m there as the beat maker, I’m still satisfied.”

Having recently been in the country with Wu-Tang clan’s raucous tour, you have to wonder whether or not an artist gets worried about oversaturating the marketplace, though as far as RZA is concerned, coming back here again and again is all good.

“I like Australia, man. You can rest there, there’s less violence out there compared to here. Y’all definitely got a good place on the Earth and I’m gonna be really happy to be a part of it. There’s a difference but in Australia, man. This is my fourth trip. I had fun out there with the Wu-Tang and I had fun out there a couple of years ago. What’s important is that the hip hop is rocked way over there in Australia and knowing that it started out years ago in Brooklyn, Staten Island and now even over with you in Australia, the kids is loving it, it’s rewarding, it feels good, know what I mean?”

Lost Prophets Australian tour

January 11th, 2010 by Kelly | 1 Comment | Filed in Tour News

Lostprophets have had a phenomenal track record. They have amassed a massive fanbase, sold millions of albums, packed out arenas globally, released a No.1 Album and have topped it off by winning ‘Best British Band’ ‘Best Single’ and ‘Best Album’ trophies at the Kerrang! Awards. By doing this, the band have crafted space for themselves, and created a sound that is essentially their own.

It was their second album ‘Start Something’ that saw Lostprophets seething and grinning with that “toldja so” confidence. With vocalist Ian Watkins tearing the place apart with passion “The result is an upbeat, defiant and utterly brilliant pop record” – Drowned In Sound

The brand new album ‘The Betrayed’ is released on January 29 and it sees the Lostprophets at their most ambitious “sweating hunger and ambition with big riffs and earworm choruses that reach over the moshpit to the stands beyond.” – BBC

For the first time in over 6 years Australian fans will get to witness the powerful live show that the Lostprophets create. Change The Record sums them up perfectly… “Not a single person in this room leaves with an experience any less than exhilarating.”
