August 21st, 2009 by Blunt | No Comments | Filed in Tour News

First they came as part of the 2004 Big Day Out, playing a legendary set during an electrical storm in Sydney with dudes trying to mosh on the mud and concrete in the downpour plus crazy sideshows with brothers in arms Thursday across the country.

Sadistik Exekution Reform for Inaugural Oz Metal Awards

August 4th, 2009 by Blunt | 2 Comments | Filed in Interviews

By Blue Demon

The first ever Australian Metal Awards will take place in Sydney on November 7th, with awards to be handed out in a range of categories from the typical ‘Best Band’, Best Album’ and ‘Best Video Clip’ to ‘Best Band Name and even Most Popular Merch’!

With some awards to be decided by popular vote, others will be determined by an expert judging panel that includes Glenn Dyson of Prime Cuts / Soundworks Touring, John Howarth of Riot!, Jeanna Sims of Stomp and BLUNT’s very own Amy Simmons.

With eight hot local bands set to perform at the ceremony, including A Secret Death, Chaos Divine and Five Star Prison Cell, the really big news is the reformation of Sadistik Exekution. Making their first live appearance since 1999, the Sydney extreme pioneers will perform a four-song set that should not be missed.

BLUNT recently caught up with Sadistik Exekution’s very colourful bassist Dave Slave to discuss the reunion he said would never happen…
You have been very vocal in expressing your view that Sadistik Exekution would never reform. In fact, you said: ‘You’ve got more chance of reforming The Beatles.’ Why this sudden change of heart?
Well, me and Rok (vocals) promised Natalie (the Metal Awards girl) about 5 years ago that we would do some sort of live show for her, and I thought it was never gonna happen, so I agreed. Then she comes up with this Metal Awards idea and Rok talked me into doing 4 songs for the event (as Rok and Natalie are close friends and were in a band together), and Sloth (drums) seemed to be OK with it! We’ve already done our last show ever, so I suppose this is our second last show ever! And there won’t be a third last show ever as I am getting more into my Doomed and Disgusting horror film world, and am looking for major interest in that field.

How long has it been since the four members were in the same room together?
Well about 10 years. However, I bought a lump of 4×2 at Bunnings for our first meeting, so I am sure I won’t have any problems! Not sure ‘bout the other blokes!

How much rehearsal and preparation will be required for the performance?
Rehearsing Sadistik Exekution isn’t easy. Actually, it’s like trying to re-assemble the Titanic! This isn’t fast and fluffy music, this is fast and fukking hard and heavy and complex. Anyone can play fast and soft, but no one can play this! So it’s gonna be stressful as always. We will start six weeks before the event.

Tell us what fans can expect from the performance.
How do I know, ya bloody goose?! We don’t plan to be mental, it comes naturally. But I do suppose the regular things like… my fingers bleeding or I punch myself in the head and I spit at Rok and break strings or a lock of Rok’s hair gets caught in my bass machine heads while I am jumping around. However I think Mr. Moon Alien might make a special top-secret appearance on the night?????

P.S. DONT FORGET TO SAY ABOVE THE INTERVIEW IN BIG WRITING ……………………THIS IS THE MOST EXTREME BAND EVER! AND THAT WE STARTED OUT AS A DEATH /PUNK BAND AND WENT OFF THE RAILS IN AN EVOLUTIONARY PROCESS.

The Australian Metal Awards will be held at the Forum in Sydney on November 7th.
