Watch An 82-Year-Old Mosh Lord Scream Onstage With Drowning Pool

When you think of the elderly, you proooobably don’t associate them with ear-splitting, balls-to-the-wall heavy metal. But, just over a week ago, the internet fell in love with this epic video of an 82-year-old mosh lord absolutely slaying a Drowning Pool track on America’s Got Talent.

John Hetlinger is the enthusiastic bloke that smashed out his rendition of Drowning Pool’s kinda-classic “Bodies” – best known as the song that played over every YouTube video with a copyright strike in 2007 – he’s a Navy veteran and aerospace engineer with a knack for karaoke… Just… Not the usual “shit ’80s pop tunes that nobody has listened to unironically since the ’80s” type.

The judges on America’s Got Talent were a little freaked out by Hetlinger’s performance, but he received a standing ovation from the (probably also terrified) crowd and went on to scrape up over 8-million views on the ‘Tube. Oh, and band themselves loved it so much that they actually invited Hetlinger to join them onstage during a show… An offer he gladly accepted.

“I picked up my phone and I got a handful of texts from a number of people because I guess it got out yesterday ahead of the airing.” said guitarist C.J. Pierce to Loudwire. “We had a band group text on there as well, and then I watched it, and man, I am so entertained by it. It’s awesome to just see an 82-year-old man get out there and just belt out some metal — whether it was our song or any song, it was just killer to see him do that.”

Not only did Hetlinger kill it onstage with the band during their recent set at Chicago’s Open Air festival, he’s set to take the stage again in Ohio. Rock on, old dude \m/
