Pity Sex Are Down A Guitarist Ahead Of Their Australian Tour
Next month, fuzz punk fire-starters Pity Sex are bringing their indie-tinged outburst of vibes ‘n’ riffs to Australia; they’re here first and foremost for the Poison City Weekender in Melbourne, but they’re also doing a handful of other shows along the East Coast as well, hitting Canberra, Wollongong, Sydney and Brisbane.
Founding guitarist and co-vocalist Britty Drake, however, won’t be in tow: in an unexpected announcement that’s left fans (and team BLUNT) screaming in agony, she’s announced her departure from the band following one final show with Best Coast next week. The now-trio haven’t announced who’ll be filling in for Drake just yet, but that may be due to the black magic and Satanic contracts we’d imagine to be involved with finding someone else who can sing that transcendentally.
“We wish her the best and know that she will continue to do great things,” the band wrote in a statement to their Facebook page. “The band will fulfill our touring commitments throughout the rest of the year and look forward to seeing you at the shows!”
For those following Drake personally, this isn’t the most surprising of news. “Quitting a band is a lot like a divorce, except you have to have the awkward ‘we aren’t together anymore’ talk with a bunch of strangers,” she tweeted a couple of days before the official announcement was made.
“This is very emotional for me,” she followed; “I am so grateful for Pity Sex, but I can no longer hold them back from touring and pursuing the success they deserve. To Pity Sex and all of the wonderful people I’ve met along the way: Thank you.” She later confirmed that she was definitely not quitting music, so… Stay tuned, we guess!
Pity Sex’s last release with Drake was their sophomore LP, White Hot Moon, which dropped back in April to critical acclaim.
