Panic! At The Disco Are Coming To Australia In 2017
I’m gonna break third person to write this one, because Panic! At The Disco have been my all-time favourite band since I was an 8-year-old lil’ shit (going on 20 now), and fuck it, I’m stoked. The last time Australia saw the Las Vegas big beaters hit us with a headline tour, the year was 2008. Pretty. Odd. debuted at #1 on the ARIA Charts, Brendon Urie had a mop haircut, and the world was once again enthralled by Beatles-esque retro rock.
Since then, three members have left the band – rendering it Urie‘s solo project – and we’ve seen the release of three shiny new albums. Sure, Panic! toured in support of 2011’s Vices & Virtues and 2013’s Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die! – but those were festival shows. There’s something about watching Panic! At The Disco take to a stage that they effectively own that just can’t be replicated elsewhere… And it’s finally happening again.
In support of this year’s (surprisingly good) Death Of A Bachelor, the genre-bending tyrant and co. will hit the open road next January. It’s semi-intimate arena-ish affair, hitting Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in the span of a week. The venues they’re playing in are a step down in size from their usual touring fare, so expect these tickets to sell out in the blink of an eye.
All three of the East Coast shows (sorry Perth) are all-ages, too, so the majority of Panic!’s fanbase won’t go hungry when it comes to getting their baroque pop on. Support acts are yet to be announced, but with the amount of bands Fueled By Ramen have signed lately, there’s certainly no lack of options. One potential choice is Against The Current, who… Just… Yes please.
