Frank Iero Announces Return To Australia… With A Whole New Project
Frank Iero is a man of wondrous perplexity – something established with music as abrasive as it is eccentric, and symbolism as beautiful as it is unexplainably fucked. The best example of this is Frnkiero Andthe Cellabration, which was initially set to make its Australian debut at Soundwave 2016. After the festival was mercilessly slaughtered, though, the New Jersey native decided to trek it Down Under anyway for a couple of intimate acoustic performances in Sydney and Melbourne.
The solo mini-shows drew crowds upwards of 1,000 strong – a far cry from the 100-odd the venues they were held in could fit – and thus, Iero is set to make his grand return to our stages this October, full band in tow. He’s upping the size pretty massively, too, hitting full-scale theatres in Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.
It’s worth noting, though, that Iero won’t be hitting our shores with The Cellabration – or Death Spells, or Leathermouth, or one of his other 6,400* bands (sadly, this includes My Chemical Romance). Instead, we’re being introduced to a new project by the name of Frnkiero Andthe Patience. There’s no word thus far on exactly what that means – whether a new album is on the cards or there’s a new backing band involved – but we’re excited to learn more.
Tagging along for all six shows is NYC hardcore legend Walter Schreifels, with his very-not-hardcore solo project. Schreifels’ solo debut, An Open Letter To The Scene, dropped all the way back in 2010 – it’s a pretty fucking great record (especially if you like raspy, retro-style indie rock), but it’s old enough to be in Kindergarten now, so we’re hoping that a sophomore effort isn’t too far off from hitting shelves.
Either way, Frank Iero and Walter Schreifels together? In 1,000-capacity theatres? Fucking yes, son!
