Who Loves Death Metal? Sharks Love Death Metal

While filming for the Shark Week show Bride of Jaws, the Discovery Channel crew revealed an interesting way to attract the deep-sea beast: blast some good ol’ fashioned death metal. Sharks, which are arguably the most metal underwater creature, hear by using receptors that run along their entire bod that allow them to pick up low-frequency vibrations. As it turns out, the dense tones of heavy metal music simulate these low-frequencies, which sound a lot like struggling fish. This somewhat strange tactic paid off, as it attracted not one but two massive great whites. Looks like we’re gonna need a bigger riff.
