Underoath Reunite For Self Help Fest

It looks like reports of Underoath’s hiatus have been greatly exaggerated, as the Christian metalcore act have just announced they’ll be reuniting to play Self Help Festival in March of next year. This will be the band’s first show since disbanding in 2013, with a line-up comprised of Aaron Gillespie, Spencer Chamberlain, Tim McTague, James Smith, Grant Brandell and Chris Dudley.

Speaking with Alternative Press, Gillespie discussed the origins of the reunion, saying, “It was offered to us. It’s such a rad festival and it seems like a lot of the bands that have come up after us are playing it. I feel like it’s just a great place to get everyone together.”

While it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting more Underoath, when asked about the future of the band after Self Help, Chamberlain had this to “I want to leave things open-ended. I don’t think we’re ever going to be a full-time band again, but I don’t like the idea of being so closed off to things. That’s what was so hard about the farewell tour, because it could’ve been that we were going on an indefinite hiatus. And I think now, the idea is the hiatus is off.”

Gillespie was a bit more vague, however: “I would never rule that out, but for me, I don’t know that it’s possible. I’m so busy: I own a studio, I’ve been playing for Paramore, I’m doing my solo thing and we all have families, etc. Is it feasible with what everyone has going on? That’s the main part of the situation.”

It may be wishful thinking, but it probably wouldn’t hurt to throw a few tweets AJ Maddah’s way – we might just see them back here for Soundwave 2016.
