Influential post-hardcore act Underoath, taking to all their social media accounts to post the tagline “Rebirth is coming”, followed the original cover photo with a video teaser, sharing the same message against pictures and an audio track. One keen eared fan, reversing the video, discovered the audio contained lyrical excerpts from “It’s Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door”, which appeared on their now-classic 2004 full-length, They’re Only Chasing Safety.
With frontman Spencer Chamberlain ruling out the possibility of a delayed 10 year They’re Only Chasing Safety tour in an interview earlier this year – and former drummer/vocalist Aaron Gillespie also sharing the video on his Instagram – fans have been left to guess what the cryptic posts could possibly mean.
Interestingly, many fans have also expressed their belief that the new branding bears a similarity to the artwork of Define The Great Line (2006). With the album experiencing its 10-year anniversary in 2016, many have questioned whether the announcement relates to a tour, despite the fact that the video teaser features audio from They’re Only Chasing Safety. At this point, the only certainty is the fact that no members have ruled out a possible reunion when questioned about it in the past.
This announcement comes months after Underoath debuted their DVD Tired Violence, documenting the band’s history and final tour. It was also followed by links to sign up to the band’s mailing list and a countdown on their official website, which many first thought to be a jumbled date.
Now the question on everyone’s lips is whether the Christian post-hardcore sextet could be pulling a Jesus and resurrecting the band. With the countdown ending on Monday August 24th, it seems only time will tell.
