Travis Barker Gives An Update On *That* Blink-182 Album

January 20, 2016: The day all of our favourite bands came out from hibernation and got us frothing over a bunch of new shit. Following hints and teasers from Green Day and At The Drive In, the next chunk of today’s excitement comes from the godfathers of pop-punk themselves – Blink-Motherfucking-182! And no, Delonge isn’t just being weird again.

In a new interview with US radio station KROQ, drummer Travis Barker hinted at a possible Winter (their Summer) release for the band’s 7th LP, with a promotional tour to follow.

“I think Summertime,” he said when asked of the record’s release window. “There’s tentatively some plans to play shows during Summer. Everything will come together and be revealed in due time. It’s gonna be great.”

Marred by the departure of founding co-frontman Tom Delonge and other various mishaps over the years, Blink’s upcoming disc has already been through quite a bit – it wouldn’t surprise us in the slightest if a 4-hour documentary were to follow. The debut Blink release to feature Delonge’s once-temporary-but-now-permanent-we-think replacement, Matt Skiba (who also fronts Alkaline Trio in his spare time), LP7 will be the band’s first full-length effort since 2011’s Neighbours, and first studio outing since 2012’s Dogs Eating Dogs EP.

“Just having someone like Matt, who’s in the studio everyday, is great. You got to show up, that’s the first part. It’s just exciting,” Barker says of the band’s new dynamic. “It’s a new chapter and we’re not striving for mediocrity, we’re looking to kill it. We’re gonna make a great album.”

As for the how the production side of things is going, the tattoo-heavy stick slinger offered this; “(the) Blink album is coming together. I’m excited. I don’t want to reveal too much. I don’t know how many songs we’re gonna write before we say ‘this is the group of 12 songs we’re putting on the album.’ We have 15-20 songs right now, but I really feel like it’s a process. It’s awesome because we’re all actually in the studio, where we couldn’t get that with the old lineup. It was impossible to get all 3 of us in the same studio…I think with a band you can’t just phone it in. You gotta be there. For that great chemistry and for everyone to really vibe you gotta all be in the same room.
