Taking Back Sunday Announce New Album, ‘Tidal Wave’
If you were wondering when you were gonna hear the new gold from Taking Back Sunday, the wait is over: the scene legends have announced that their new album Tidal Wave is on its way.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly (we’re not sure why), frontman Adam Lazzara described the record as “a bit of a departure, but I don’t think it’s coming out of left field”. He added, however, that he realises “anything we do is going to sound like Taking Back Sunday”, anyway. We should hope so. While no official singles have been unveiled, the band have taken to the stage to perform the titular cut.
Lazarra has described the upcoming LP as having an “Americana” inspiration, drawing from Tom Petty and Bryan Adams. But, he wouldn’t call it “an emo record”. As to why it’s titled Tidal Wave, as opposed to Hurricane Eye or Tropic Thunder, he had this to say: “Even throughout each song on the record there are a lot of references to water”. “That’s why it seems like that title kept poking its neck out”.
Taking Back Sunday are approaching this album cycle with an honest intention, noting their desire to debut it in “the smallest clubs” they can “go to”.
Even though they’re returning to the fans that they got through school, and to the venues that they’ve toured from fringes to families, Lazarra concludes that, rather than pretending that they’re still in senior high, TBS have matured: “it’s like as you grow older the blinders get pulled back and you have a different way of looking at the world around you”. We’re looking forward to hearing all about it when the LP drops in September.
