Polaris Announce New EP, ‘The Guilt & The Grief’

Polaris

That’s two thus far, Shooter! Sydney metalcore band Polaris have today announced that their second (and dare we say hotly anticipated) EP, The Guilt & The Grief, will be released independently on January 29th, 2016. Following the EP’s release, you’ll be able to catch the band on their (almost) national tour alongside Stories, Belle Haven and Perspectives throughout February and March.

If you thought their recent single, “Regress”, was a tasty slice of what’s to come, you’d be right – Polaris have been biding their time and honing their chops since their 2013 EP, Dichotomy. Their latest effort was penned between May and August of this year before the band returned to STL Studios on the Central Coast with producer Sonny Truelove (Young Lions, Prepared Like A Bride) to track what we’re gonna go ahead and call the best set of tunes they’ve ever put their name to.

If January 29th is just too far away, the good news is that single #2, “Hold You Under”, will be premiered on triple j’s Home & Hosed with Dom Alessio tonight from 9pm. Oh, and it just so happens to feature guest vocals from none other than Northlane’s Marcus Bridge.

Of the EP process, drummer Daniel Furnari says, “That title just seemed to have some tie to every track on the record – whether the sentiments of the song were being directed inward, or outward as is the case with the couple of political songs on the EP. Then on that personal level, as you might guess, there’s a lot of questioning, a lot of self-doubt and regret and blame. But there’s a strange kind of optimism in there too, a desire and a drive to be a better person even if you don’t yet know how.”

If anyone tells you the local heavy scene isn’t thriving right now, they’re a filthy liar.
