Mastodon Go Wild On Game Of Thrones

mastodon game of thrones

Last night’s episode of Game Of Thrones featured a cameo from Atlantic sludge metal kings Mastodon and, spoiler alert, it was as metal as you’d expect. Admittedly, it is kind of hard to pick out band members Brann Dailor, Bill Kelliher, and Brent Hinds among the crowd of burly, long-haired and heavily bearded Wildlings. This cameo comes after the band contributed the original song “White Walker” for the second Catch The Throne mixtape. When we last spoke to Brann Dailor, the drummer revealed a mutual affection between the band and the show’s writers.

“Brent [Hinds, vocals/guitar] met one of the writers and some of the cast at Sonisphere Festival. They hooked up and talked, and I guess the writer is a big Mastodon and metal fan, so we kept in touch. […] We’re huge fans of Game Of Thrones, we watch it on tour together.”

Mastodon aren’t the first musical cameo for the series with Icelandic post-rockers Sigur Rós making an appearance during Season 4, while both The National and The Hold Steady have provided soundtrack covers for the end credits.

Listen to Mastodon’s “White Walker” below.
