Exclusive Track Premiere: Divides – “Echoes Fade”

Alt rock quintet DIVIDES have unveiled the clip for their new track, “Echoes Fade”, and also announced the release of their debut album, Brokentooth, which is out independently on August 11. In 2013 the up-and-coming rock troupe, led by powerhouse of a frontwoman CJ Marie, packed up their lives in Anchorage, Alaska and set their sights on the greener musical pastures of Portland, Oregon. Needless to say, Brokentooth’s themes are fleshed out by the isolation, elation and overall mixed emotions that come about when one uproots their life in their hometown. In “Echoes Fade”, Marie’s vocals (which, at risk of playing off of that alternative music cliché, will certainly appeal to fans of Hayley Williams’ pipes) are paired with those of Chris James from Defeat The Low, working that male-female duel vocal vibe that we all secretly hold a soft spot for.

“The lyrics for this song were written in pieces since we moved down from Alaska,” says bassist Joe Jackson. “Transitions anywhere can be hard, but the worst part is being away from the people you love. These lyrics in particular were really therapeutic for me to write; I’m reminded of that every time we play it. I wanted it to be less about the tragedy of absence and loss, and more so about not letting yourself get trapped in the past and the memories that hold you there. Having our friend Chris add vocals to the song really helped convey that message.”

Brokentooth is out independently on August 11.
