Blink-182 Shit Talking Continues; Travis Says Tom “Wanted To Sound Like U2”

Blink-182

It appears the he said, he said epic is still raging on in the Blink-182 camp with drummer Travis Barker discussing founding member Tom DeLonge’s involvement with the group in a recent interview.

Ahead of this weekend’s Musink Tattoo Convention & Music Festival, Barker was interviewed by YouTuber Mr. Wavvy about a range of topics, however the most pressing for any Blink fan was probably when the conversation steered towards Mr. DeLonge.

To cherry-pick from a nearly 18-minute interview (which you can hear in full below), Barker said, “I think Blink is like eternal youth. Mark [Hoppus, bass] and I personally never wanted to change, you know? Towards the last couple of albums, Tom was obsessed with U2 and wanted to sound like U2. He wanted to basically record songs that sounded like Coldplay.”

He continued: “For us, it was always like, ‘Blink is Blink, man. We wanna sound like fucking Blink-182’. That’s why we’re in this band… I never want any of my other side projects to influence Blink. I love Blink for what it is.”

Of the band’s latest album (and first in eight years), Barker added, “Neighborhoods was rough because we all three didn’t agree on a sound. We had a member of the band who wanted to really change the sound of the band.”

Blink-182 – now featuring Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba – recently posted footage of themselves tracking and recording with producer John Feldmann, whose envious production CV includes the likes of All Time Low, The Used and Beartooth. Barker has previously mentioned that the new album might be released during the US summer, so we’ll be waiting with baited breath to see if his statements hold up.
