Architects Guitarist Tom Searle Has Died Age 28

Architects

2016 you need to stop breaking our hearts. It is with great sadness that we announce Architects guitarist and songwriter Tom Searle has passed away after a three-year battle with cancer.

In a touching yet heartbreaking post on Facebook, Tom’s twin brother and fellow Architects bandmate Dan Searle wrote that Tom died in the early hours of August 20. The 28-year-old has been absent from many of the band’s shows over the past 15 months, undergoing various surgeries and treatments for melanoma skin cancer.

“He was an incredible songwriter and guitarist,” Dan said. “He was my closest and oldest friend. He was a funny, intelligent and sweet man and he leaves an enormous void in all of our lives.

“He spent the last 2 months of his life fighting with everything he had to overcome the disease once and for all, and things appeared to be moving in the right direction, but in the last 2 weeks it suddenly took a turn for the worse and finally he left us.”

The band are encouraging fans to donate to Martlets Hospice in Hove, whose staff “took unbelievable care of Tom in his final days”. You can contribute via their Just Giving page, which has so far raised over $5,800 AUD.

While the drummer admits he does not know “what will become of Architects”, he assures fans the Brighton metalcore band will “100% tour All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us” and we will indeed be seeing them in Australia in a few weeks for their national tour alongside fellow Brits Bring Me The Horizon and ’68.

Our thoughts are with the band and their families during this difficult time. R.I.P. Tom, you will be missed.
