Alexisonfire Are Officially Back Together
This is not a drill: After getting our hopes up by announcing a string of worldwide festival spots earlier this year, everyone’s favourite Canucks Alexisonfire have officially told us they’re back for good whilst on stage at Riot Fest Toronto. Addressing the crowd, guitarist and Gallows frontman Wade MacNeil said, “Thank you for believing in this band when we couldn’t even believe in this band. Thank you for sticking with us. We promise to never leave you again, alright? No more sentimental shit – Alexisonfire is officially back!” before they launched into “Young Cardinals” and everyone in attendance lost their minds. If you happened to tease yourself with any of the footage from Reading/Leeds Festival a few weeks back, you’ll hate yourself for knowing that the AOF live show is still in damn fine form.
It’s been four years since The Only Band Ever announced their initial split, and coming up on three since we said our final sweaty goodbyes at their farewell shows in Sydney and Melbourne. Things haven’t seemed to slow down for Dallas Green and City and Colour (whose fifth album, If I Should Go Before You, will be with us from October 9), or Gallows, still touring off the back of April’s Desolation Sounds. Given the band’s members cited such a juggling act as the reason for their break in the first place, it’ll be interesting to see how they manage the load from here on out. As for now though, we’re off to crank Old Crows/Young Cardinals. Happy Sunday!
