Watch The Fucked Up New Trailer For Seth Rogen’s ‘Sausage Party’
Look, we never thought we’d be this into an animated movie about food, but here we are. The ever-delightful stoner comic Seth Rogen has been teasing us with snippets of his upcoming movie, Sausage Party, and we finally have a full-length trailer to sink our teeth into.
Rogen has rounded up all the usual suspects (Michael Cera, James Franco, Paul Rudd) for his first foray into full-blown animated comedy. Let’s just say Frozen it ain’t. Shall we take bets now on the number of disgruntled parents that will swiftly demand refunds after unknowingly take their children to see this film?
In Sausage Party, Rogen and his writing partner-in-crime Evan Goldberg (Superbad, Pineapple Express, This Is The End) ponder the ultimate two-part what-if question that you probably haven’t given a second thought since you were a young kid, or perhaps the time you insisted on taking another “hit” and landed somewhere south of rational thinking – what if food products were sentient beings, and what the hell would they get up to once everyone leaves the supermarket?
The story follows Barry, a hotdog voiced by Michael Cera, who is one of many food products in a supermarket that have been led to believe that being purchased and porking some sweet, sweet buns over the American July 4th weekend is the be all and end all of their existence. Needless to say, all hell kind of breaks loose when the food stuffs learn the truth.
In an interview with Howard Stern last year, Rogen says of the film, “We thought it would be funny to do an R-rated Pixar-style movie. It’s fucking filthy! It’s really, really, really dirty, but it looks like a Pixar movie … There is a food orgy in the movie – one of the most filthy things I’ve ever seen in my life.”
Has a movie ever possessed a greater selling point? Well, maybe the fact that the man who brought you Borat deems it “the single craziest fucking thing I’ve seen in my whole life”. Sacha Baron Cohen was shown a hand-drawn preview version of the film and was “appalled in some ways”, telling Rogen, “just know you’ve gotten successful enough to make the craziest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.”
Sausage Party is set to be released in August, and our excitement levels are palpable.
