Weekly Shred School: Avenged Sevenfold “Beast And The Harlot”

Level: Intermediate
Tuning:D A D G B E (Drop D)
Some of us are mere mortals, and then there are people like Chris Zoupa. You may not have come across Zoupa’s YouTube channel before, but the Melbourne-based guitarist and songwriter is a bit of a whiz with an axe in his hand, and knows a thing or two about sharing the secrets of his craft. From shredding tips and tricks to a blow-by-blow of Metallica’s “Master Of Puppets” solo, Zoupa is all about turning you into a metal maestro.
»» Ever wanted to learn the hardest song on Guitar Hero? ««
Each week, Zoupa will be bringing you tutorial videos on how to nail that solo from your favourite heavy songs. In this edition, he’ll be looking at Avenged Sevenfold’s “Beast And The Harlot”, from their 2005 album City Of Evil. Here’s a few words from the man himself:
Hey guys, Chris Zoupa here. Check out my tutorial of the manic guitar solo from Avenged Sevenfold classic “Beast And The Harlot”. This solo is almost a mash up of alternate picking exercises, but it’s riddled with cool licks. It also has a really excellent use of outside notes and shredded chromatics.
I’d recommend breaking up the solo into chunks and practicing them with a metronome or a slowing down program. If you persist young ones, you will come out the victors.
Happy shredding guys.
