Saviour Are Back In Action With New Lineup; Single
Three months and a little bit since melodic Perthcore unit Saviour announced they would be rising from the grave, the once-quintet, now-sextet have come out to announce an entirely new lineup leading the band forward. The mosh machine is still fronted by old mate Bryan Best behind the mic, but we’ll now also see Tyler Rettig slapping some bass, Daniel Reesy shredding gnarly riffs, and Shontay Snow synth-ing it up and melting our souls with her angelic backing vocals. Former axeman Lyndsay Antica and drumlord Jordan Mather round out the lineup.
Fans may recognise Snow as a frequent collaborator with Saviour in the past – she sung on a handful of tracks for the band’s 2013 debut, First Light To My Deathbed, which… Look. They were ah-mazing. Her first track with the band as a permanent member is “Lovers”, released today as Saviour’s first single since that record dropped. No word yet if it’s set to appear on a full-length, but it’s been hinted they’ll be dropping one later in the year.
Saviour initially called it quits in early 2014, leading Best to embark on a new route with (still functioning!) rapcore outfit I Am Zero. The decision to revive Saviour came with a clear shift in direction for the band and its sound, which Best explains was a crucial factor.
“We’ve been sitting around for half a year now reconstructing our sound,” he says. “We have all grown since the release of our last album, First Light To My Deathbed, which came out in 2013. It only makes sense that we would have evolved from then to now. With the addition of Shontay Snow as a permanent member, moving the soundscape in a lighter direction was inevitable. A big part of our music has always been the feel so everything we have created over the past six months has been written with that being the core element. And I think we are all super proud of how it is all sounding. Lovers is barely the tip of the iceberg for us.”
Later this month, the group will set off on a seven-date trek across the country with Ocean Grove and Ambleside on the Aust Undead Tour. You can grab tickets to those shows (maybe act quick though, because this shit is definitely going to sell out) via the links below.
