I Killed The Prom Queen Step Out Of UNIFY ’17, Bodyjar Take Their Place

With just a couple of months to go until UNIFY 2017 kicks off, it was inevitable that one band would chuck a u-ey from the bill. After all, you can’t have a lineup that stunning without any issues. It’s just the law of festivals.

Adelaide metalcore faves I Killed The Prom Queen have today announced that they’re no longer a part of the three-day camping fest, as a result of logistical issues.

In a statement to Music Feeds, frontman Jona Weinhofen explained; “As most people are aware, I reside in the US now so logistics in IKTPQ partaking in any activity are [sic] difficult. When we accepted the offer to play Unify, the band had plans to all be in Australia writing and recording at that time.”

“Unfortunately some circumstances in my personal life recently changed and I would no longer be in the country at the time of Unify. Unfortunately the money IKTPQ was offered was not enough to cover my international flights and the band’s other performance related costs which would have had us running at a loss in order to perform at Unify.”

On the upside, their slot on the bill has already been filled, and by one of Australia’s most iconic pop-punk bands: Bodyjar. Their legacy as one of Australia’s pop-punk pioneers makes them a pretty decent replacement, having released eight massive studio albums since kicking off in 1990. Their most recent outing was 2013’s Role Model, which dropped through UNFD.

Their newfound festival-mates seem pretty stoked on the addition, too, with Deez Nuts frontman JJ Peters stating, “Rimshot is one of my all time favourite punk rock albums. Definitely one of the bands that inspired to me to write music and start a band. Psyched to share the stage with the legends!” Violent Soho drummer Michael Richards is also hyped as fuck, stating, “The first time I heard these guys, punk rock became better forever.

Bodyjar join an already enormous lineup for UNIFY 2017, featuring Alexisonfire, Every Time I Die, Moose Blood, Northlane and letlive. amongst a slew of others.
