Hellions Intent On Killing Us; Announce Tour / New Album Coming In Exactly A Month
Just a couple of days shy of 18 months ago, Sydney hell-raisers Hellions dropped (warning: opinions ahead) not only the best hardcore album of 2015, but one of the best the genre has ever seen. Indian Summer was a masterpiece through and through, and not even slightly has its immediacy settled.
It’s with that in mind, then, that we couldn’t be more absolutely hyped as fuck for Opera Oblivia – Hellions’ third full-length album due for release… In exactly a month. Well, a month and one day.
“We would love for Opera Oblivia to be an escape for its listeners,” suggests guitarist Matthew Gravolin, “but more than that, we want it to commiserate with people through our common unpleasantries and overwhelming hardships, and also celebrate alongside our inevitable victory. We want people to allow it to befriend them and remain with them long after its sounds fade out.”
The LP will hit shelves on July 29th via UNFD (and Rise Records outside of Australia). The record was laid down with producer Shane Edwards in Thailand, and sees the band explore their unique, infinitely layered artistry in ways that haven’t been fully realised until now. The record is said to play out like a theatrical presentation – think “concept album”, but with more press release buzzwordiness – with lead single “Quality Of Life” serving as Act I, Scene I.
In addition to the surprise album announcement, hellions released a killer new music video for “Quality Of Life” drilling in the song’s – and album’s, and, really, band’s – theme of criticising, from a human level, human emotion.
The clip is preceded by the message, “If you want to be creative, stay in part a child, with the creativity and invention that characterises children before they are deformed by adult society.”
And, because a new music video and album announcement aren’t enough to blow your Tuesday right the fuck up: Hellions are also going on tour. The launch tour for “Quality Of Life” will serve as the band’s first Australian tour since trekking the country with Stray From The Path back in January, and their first headline run since last August.
Kicking off with a show on Opera Oblivia‘s release date, the tour will hit Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane across the last few and first few days of July and August, respectively.
