Hands Like Houses Cover A No Doubt Banger; Announce 2017 Headline Tour
triple j‘s Like A Version is always good for a bit of a Friday morning shake-up: in the past, we’ve seen Modern Baseball put their spin on a Violent Soho jam and In Hearts Wake make their mark on a Parkway Drive banger, but this one is… Interesting.
Experimental rockers Hands Like Houses took to the J’s this morning to bust out an exceptionally chill rendition of No Doubt‘s “Don’t Speak”, which – is there such thing as ‘too ethereal’? If there is, this is it. Trenton Woodley‘s vocals creep into your heart like a bullet ant in an open lunchbox and tuck in like there’s no tomorrow, dulcet guitar plucks only boosting the vibes tenfold. It’s a nice change of pace after their recent LP Dissonants upped the riffs, and takes us back to 2014’s shoegaze-y Reimagine EP.
Alongside the cover came the announcement that the quintet would embark on their first national headline tour since the release of Dissonants next February – named after new single “Colourblind”, the tour will hit Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne as Hands Like Houses’ biggest headline run yet.
“Its only June but it’s already been one of the biggest years of our career, especially here at home in Australia!” says Woodley. “In the spirit of hometown pride and excitement, we will kick off an even bigger 2017 with our biggest Australian headline run yet. I know I’ve said biggest three times but as the saying goes, ‘go big or go home’… But why not do both?”
Hands Like Houses recently capped off a massive tour supporting In Hearts Wake and Northlane on the Equinox tour. Before that, they made a seriously massive drop-in on the ARIA charts with Dissonants peaking at #7.
