FIRE ALERT: Ocean Grove Get Hot And Heavy On Scorching New Banger

Ocean Grove

2017 is looking like a pretty spicy time for the lads in Ocean Grove, who, after a fuckoff massive January, will release their long awaited debut album. Though it hasn’t been said whether or not their latest jam is our first taste of the LP, “These Boys Light Fires” certainly has us drooling over whatever the boys have cooking up.

Recorded and produced entirely themselves in drummer/producer Sam Basal‘s bedroom, the cut was given its first public spin yesterday on triple j’s Good Nights program. Where previous single “Lights On Kind Of Lover” threw us headfirst into the energy of the ’90s nu-metal cyclone, “These Boys Light Fires” ups the ante by a million. It’s a raw, rollicking journey through the fierce and frothy hardcore of summers past.

“Although we have always maintained a songwriting style that is very vivid and open to the emotional interpretation of a listener, the undercurrent theme of ‘These Boys Light Fires’ is a journey,” says frontman Luke Holmes. “Written from the viewpoint of someone walking through a garden or labyrinth, ‘These Boys Light Fires’ also draws parallels with our own journey in referencing our growth as people since the last record.

“It happens very rarely but this song came to me almost instantaneously brought on by the upbeat and optimistic touch to the instrumental of which I couldn’t help but elicit a positive response. I view this song as a celebration of life and an anthem for people embracing it.

“As we wrote the song we were very conscious of its potential to translate tremendously live, it’s very high energy and I think Dale Tanner’s delivery is the best we’ve seen from him. The sample during the bridge is a voice recording I found on my phone the night after an all-time house party/funeral/demolition.”

Ocean Grove are set to make their second appearance at the annual UNIFY Gathering in January, before embarking on an enormous regional trek with the sadcore salt-slingers in The Amity Affliction and theatricore trailblazers in Hellions.
