Fall Out Boy Covered The Ghostbusters Theme And Everyone Is Fucking Pissed

Fall Out Boy

By no stretch of the term is Ray Parker Jr.‘s original Ghostbusters theme a ‘classic’ – it’s catchy, sure, and it was well and truly beaten to death throughout the ’90s, but… It’s nothing special. It’s amazing, then, that Fall Out Boy – of all bands, the one that pretty much everyone here on Team BLUNT hold close to their hearts – have destroyed it so mercilessly that we’re on the verge of crying blood.

“It can’t be that bad,” you say? Sure, we’ll give you the benefit of the doubt. There’s a YouTube embed down the bottom of this page: click it. Listen to those terribly oscillated synths. Soak in all of those super-polished crowd vocals and have your cranium chipped at by that fucking digital tambourine. This is the band that released Folie A Deux. This is the band that made our ’00s memorable with “Sugar, We’re Going Down” and gave us all the feels with “Grand Theft Autumn”. What the fuck, Pete!?

Deservedly so, the internet is losing its mind. Vanity Fair say that “even a game Missy Elliott can’t save this dubstep tire fire,” (the Virginia rap queen features on a verse, for some fucking reason) while The Verge threaten, “If you play it in front of your teen’s friends I’ll call the police on you.” Honestly, we can’t oppose them. We’ve got 000 on speed dial.

Consequence Of Sound take the cake for the perfect description, though: “It’s the musical equivalent of a high school science project in which you’re paired with a guy named Pete. Only, Pete is too busy getting his tips frosted and shopping at Hot Topic to put in any real effort, and you two wait until the night before to scotch tape together a poster board posing the question: why do farts stink?”

Unfortunately, movie fans will be subjected to Fall Out Boy’s soul-sucking audible torture when Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters hits cinemas on July 14th. The film already has itself a bad rep – mostly from whiny manbabies crying over the fact that it features an all-female leading cast, but also from those who can look past the gender issue and see that, yeah, regardless of who’s starring in it, this doesn’t look all too… Enjoyable.
