Everything You Need To Know About Danny Worsnop Re-Joining Asking Alexandria

Asking Alexandria w Danny

It’s been a pretty fucking hectic weekend for Asking Alexandria fans – after weeks of speculation, teases and rumours that, for all intents and purposes, sounded absolutely batshit crazy, the metalcore mainstays dropped their frothiest bombshell since the 2015 announcement that former vocalist Danny Worsnop would be leaving… Which was… That… He’s back?

Worsnop initially ditched the band in January ’15 to front hard rock supergroup We Are Harlot; the band released their self-titled debut album that March, and after a lengthy touring stint, Worsnop slipped away to begin work on what would materialise into his solo full-length, The Long Road Home (in case the title doesn’t give it away, a country rock opus), which is still awaiting release.

His beef with Asking Alexandria post-split has been one the band have not shied away from, particularly when it came to interviews with guitarist Ben Bruce, and a solid handful of the cuts on this year’s The Black. For their fourth record, the band recruited ex-Make Me Famous frontman Denis Stoff: the relationship seemed to bring forth Asking’s strongest unity thus far, but, following their European tour earlier this year, it turns out that wasn’t the case.

Bruce took to Facebook Live on Saturday morning to confirm that Worsnop has reunited with Asking, stating bluntly that Stoff “stopped talking to us” and ignored their attempts to contact him. Of course, as his former Make Me Famous bandmates would have predicted, Stoff supposedly sent the band one message reading, “Asking Alexandria does not exist unless I get what’s owed to me”, which Bruce has “no idea what it means”.

Stoff has since tweeted about his departure, writing, “I left AA because I can’t be in a touring band at this point of my life. There’s no drama [and] I don’t want to be a part of it.” This was in response to a tweet from Sumerian Records CEO Ash Avildsen, who stated, “As requested, I’ll release a video further clarifying what happened with AA. If Denis denies the truth, emails and texts prove everything.”

In the live video, Bruce justified Worsnop’s return by alluding to the squashing of their beef: “We’re a family, and we always have been since day one,” he said. “We’ve rekindled our relationship with Danny… At the end of the day, we’ve been best friends for a decade, and this is why this is the best move for us.”

A full-band statement is supposedly imminent, but Bruce assured fans that Asking Alexandria were “just as blindsided” as fans were with the news of Stoff’s sudden departure.

Worsnop has since issued a statement of his own, taking to Instagram to write that “[rumours] and speculation of recent events have circulated long before even their inception, but in an ironic twist of fate or foresight have come to fruition.”

“I took this last year off from playing and touring to find myself (pretentious) and re-evaluate my life (cliche), which I NAILED (badass),” he wrote. “So, now, after almost two years, I shall be going on tour again with Asking Alexandria. We have spent the last week honing the show and the set to be the best it can be, and best it has ever been, and I hope y’all enjoy watching it as much as we have creating it.

“I’m now in a place mentally where this is something I can embrace again, with the men I started this crazy journey with. It’s a beautiful nostalgia that feels like nothing ever changed. Whatever happened with Asking Alexandria and Denis Shaforostov is between them, and for them to tell. All I can speak to is my excitement to be working with my old and dear friends, playing music we made for a decade that we are here to celebrate.”

Understandably, the fan reaction to Worsnop’s return has been… Mixed. Asking Alexandria toured Australia once with Stoff in tow, back in April. As for when they’ll return in their re-rebooted state… We’ll just have to find out.

Suss all the beefiness (and rekindle your love for OG Asking with “A Prophecy“) below!

As none, some, most, or all of you have seen, the last week has been what one would refer to as “eventful”. Rumors and speculation of recent events have circulated long before even their inception but in an ironic twist of fate or foresight have come to fruition. Two weeks ago I was approached with a question, that as to if I would consider touring with my former band, Asking Alexandria for their upcoming tour “10 Years In The Black”. Now, keep in mind that outside occasional “Hey man, how’ve you been?” texts, Ben Bruce and I hadn’t spoken since my departure, and the rest of the band, not at all. It was a long week pondering the decision and figuring out what the right thing to do was. After all, my album “The Long Road Home” is about to release, which is of course my primary focus, I’m working on the new We Are Harlot record, and trying to book in as much acting work as possible. Eventually the pivotal hour came about and it was time to make a decision. I took this last year off from playing and touring to find myself (pretentious) and re-evaluate my life (cliche), which I NAILED (badass). So, now, after almost two years, I shall be going on tour again with Asking Alexandria. We have spent the last week honing the show and the set to be the best it can be, and best it has ever been, and I hope y’all enjoy watching it as much as we have creating it. It is a journey through the band’s history and maybe even a new song that isn’t actually very new but is new but isn’t new at all. I’m now in a place mentally where this is something I can embrace again, with the men I started this crazy journey with. It’s a beautiful nostalgia that feels like nothing ever changed. Whatever happened with Asking Alexandria and Denis Shaforostov is between them, and for them to tell. All I can speak to is my excitement to be working with my old and dear friends, playing music we made for a decade that we are here to celebrate.
