Deftones’ Chino Moreno Played An Acoustic Show Inside A Fucking Volcano

Deftones-main

Nope, we weren’t bullshitting you when we said that Deftones frontman Chino Moreno would be taking his acoustic into an Icelandic volcano for a jam.

The alt-metallers are currently in Iceland for the Secret Solstice festival, where they’re performing to native fans for the first time ever in their 28-year history. While crossing that off the bucket list, Moreno has also made history altogether, being the first musician to ever perform to an audience inside a goddamn volcano.

Icelandic local Snorri Helgason opened the show, with Moreno playing an intimate three-song ‘headlining’ set. And by intimate, we mean only twenty people could get their hands on tickets. For the low, low price of £1,380 ($2,716 Australian), twenty lucky fans were lowered 400 feet into the volcano – which hasn’t erupted in 4,000 years – to witness Moreno strum a jam from David Bowie‘s recent Blackstar opus, a Morrissey cover, and Deftones’ own “Change (House Of Flies)”.

Deftones are currently trekking around the world – though, this was and will be their only jaunt into a volcano for the time being – in support of their recent eighth album, Gore. They’ll be hitting Australian shores this November with Karnivool and Voyager by their sides; the five shows are going down inside actual venues, but as Brisbane fans are all too aware, their weather at the end of the year might as well be classified volcanic.

Sidenote: Could you imagine if the music set off the volcano’s first eruption in 4,000 years?

We wonder if they thought about that.
