Columbus Sign To UNFD; Announce Tour And Killer New Single
Brisbane pop-punks (and BLUNT HQ stereo mainstays) Columbus have just dropped one hell of a triple whammy on us. After last year’s Home Remedy EP saw them soar into the popularity stratosphere, the trio have hopped aboard the one ship every budding Aussie shredder dreams of: the S.S. UNFD. The announcement of their signing comes in tandem with the news that the band’s debut full-length is set to hit shelves in the second half of 2016.
“Columbus are a band everyone at UNFD is falling in love with right now,” says UNFD label head Luke Logemann. “They write amazing songs and make them sound even better live. ‘Replace Me’ is already one of the best Australian summer jams of ‘15/16!”
Vocalist/guitarist Alex Moses shares the sentiment: “We’re so excited to announce that we’ll be signing to UNFD and working with them on our debut album,” he enthuses. “It’s so great to be able to work with an Australian label so close to home with a team that so enthusiastically wants to support us and our music. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for us and our friends at UNFD.”
Getting its first spin yesterday on triple j’s Home And Hosed, “Replace Me” is the first taste of that forthcoming LP. The track keeps in line with (and effortlessly improves upon) the band’s signature emotive faux-punk style, settling in as a slick 2:55 of pure, unadulterated vibes. To give the single the proper explosion it deserves, Columbus will hit Sydney and Brisbane for three intimate and exclusive launch shows –18+ and all-ages jaunts in their hometown on March 24th and 26th respectively, and a free drop-in at Frankie’s Pizza (where we recently did some cool shit with Violent Soho) in Sydney on March 20th.
Last month, Columbus picked up a couple of virtual trophies in our annual BLUNT Reader’s Choice Awards taking out the ‘Best Newcomer’ and ‘Best EP’ categories.
