Fresh Fruit: Undercast
What other names did you consider calling yourselves?
I don’t think we had any other names in mind. The reason I wanted to call the band Undercast is because a friend thought it was a dumb band name, and I wanted to prove them wrong.
Where are you from and what would be the most recognisable local landmark?
Brandon and Josh both originate from Sydney. Lachie and Michael grew up in Coffs Harbour before moving here a few years ago, shortly before the band formed. Sydney’s landmark is Mary’s in Newtown and Coffs’ is the Big Banana.
Who is in your band, what do they play and what is their non-musical superpower?
Michael – vocals: is extremely intimidating.
Brandon – bass guitar: can punch your heart.
Lachlan – drums: has the ability to be extremely adequate.
Gomez – guitar: can grow a moustache with the speed of light.
Name your three biggest influences.
Real Friends, Neck Deep and State Champs.
What’s the usual first topic of conversation when you take a break at rehearsal?
Talking about upcoming shows… Or sharing memes.
What’s your pre-show warm-up routine?
Some vocal warmups, Red Bull or beers.
Tell us about your most memorable show.
Easily opening for State Champs at the Bald Faced Stag in Sydney. A bunch of mates came out, and the show ended up selling out on the night. The first song we ever covered as a full band was “Hard to Please” by them, so it honestly felt like a huge achievement to be playing with the band two years later.
What band would you most like to share the stage with and why?
We’d love to play with Blink 182 or Green Day.
What’s the most exciting album you’ve listened to recently?
Collectively, Promise Everything by Basement.
What is your latest release and why should we buy it?
Our new release is called Temperamental and it’s out March 22nd! You should buy it because we worked for over a year on it to make sure it’s something we’re proud of – we think it’s pretty cool.
If you could be endorsed by one company, who would it be?
We’ve gotten free Red Bull before, which was pretty awesome for tour. Being endorsed by Fender would also be pretty awesome.
Why are you going to make it to the top over all the other contenders in the musical arena?
We’re not in it for anything other than hanging out and making music. As cliche as it sounds, that’s all it is.
Other than Dave Grohl, who has the best beard in rock?
Yanni Tastzidis from Life’s Ill, a sick hardcore band from Sydney.
