The Wilderness Years

Fresh Fruit

Triple J Unearthed

What other names did you consider calling yourselves?
I was gonna call it Tom Ware And The Theres, but that was a bit too good.

Where are you from and what would be the most recognisable local landmark?
I did this record in Perth, but live on the Gold Coast now, so… Waterslides.

Who is in your band, what do they play and what is their non-musical superpower?
I did this record with Jimmy Balderston (Grenadiers). He has never tried coffee. What type of person hasn’t ever tried coffee!? That guy.

Name your three biggest influences.
Country guitar, ’80s metal and punk rock.

What’s the usual first topic of conversation when you take a break at rehearsal?
How far we have travelled for said rehearsal.

What’s your pre-show warm-up routine?
I don’t really have a routine or a set list… Now all I can think about is poutine – maybe ’cause I’m hungry and it rhymes with routine. Brisbane has good poutine.

Tell us about your most memorable show.
Sad By Sad West fest in Melbourne was pretty great!

What band would you most like to share the stage with and why?
Metallica. Cliff Burton era, ’cause Cliff forever.

What’s the most exciting album you’ve listened to recently?
Hannahband – Quitting Will Improve Your Health. Hannahband are a total gem.

What is your latest release and why should we buy it?
The Wilderness Years (self-titled) is our first release, and you should buy it ’cause it’s a whole album of good songs, it’s pretty different, and it sounds pretty good.

If you could be endorsed by one company, who would it be?
Aeropress – I broke one from over-enthusiastic plunging.

Why are you going to make it to the top over all the other contenders in the musical arena?
I just want to make the best records I possibly can and have fun playing music with my friends.

Other than Dave Grohl, who has the best beard in rock?
Jamie Hay or Burgs (Suburban And Coke) – they can fight it out.

Wrap your ears around The Wilderness Years’ latest single “Important Things” below!

The Wilderness Years (self-titled) is out now independently
